Primary Community

Julie Aiken - Guide

Julie completed her AMI training in 2009, and was an assistant at a local Montessori school for two years. Outside of school, Julie enjoys spending time with her teenage daughter and husband. Julie is also an avid weaver. She serves on the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild Board of Directors and would weave 24/7 if she didn't love being with children in the casa so much, as well as gardening, traveling, and spending time with friends.

Maria Decillis - Assistant

As a Uruguay native, Maria brings her bilingual proficiency to the Primary class, immersing the children with Spanish everyday.  Maria takes her weekends to spend time with family, including her six year old daughter, and to study for her Associates Degree at Georgia Perimeter College. Maria has been with us at Harvest since January 2010 and is enjoying every moment of it.

The School Day
  • The Primary Class is for children ages 3 to 6 years.  All children are toilet trained.
  • Children arrive between at 8:40 and 8:55 AM.  They put their belongings away in preparation for the day to begin at 9:00 AM.
  • The Montessori three-hour work cycle begins at 9 AM until 12 PM.
  • Children will have free-access to all areas of the prepared environment.
  • Individual lessons will be conducted as well as small group lessons in all areas of learning.
  • The day includes plenty of outdoor time for play and gardening.  As our garden matures, it will become the source of snacks and lunch.
  • Lunch is from 12 PM until 12:45 PM. It is a formal group lunch. The children set the tables and learn table courtesies as they share in their meal.
  • At 1:oo PM half-day children prepare to go home.  Younger full/extended-day children prepare for a nap.  The older children in the class begin their afternoon work cycle.
  • Full-day children prepare to leave at 3:30 PM.  Extended day children leave at 5:30 PM.
